Audrey D'Cotta

Founder & Master Instructor

Audrey’s first brush with Pilates several years ago was as a client coping with back pain and scoliosis. Pilates proved to be such a life-changing experience for her that in 2003, she switched reins from the corporate world to become a movement instructor, in the hope of touching others’ lives through movement. In 2009, Audrey founded The Moving Body – a culmination of more than a decade of movement experience consisting of Fitness, Functional training, Pilates and the GYROTONIC® method.

Fully certified in the Pilates, GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS® methods, Audrey is passionate about providing the best care for her clients. Till this day, she travels extensively to learn from various experts in the field of movement practice to broaden her skill set and shares it with fellow instructors. Both a Balanced Body Faculty member and a Pre-Trainer in the GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS® methods, Audrey has trained and certified many new aspiring instructors in the region. She conducts instructor training in Singapore and in Asia and has presented at the Asian Fitness Conference in 2012 and the Balanced Body Pilates Around the World Conference in 2020.

During the Covid 19 Pandemic, She took great interest in the effective use of mental imagery to teach movement through the Franklin Method, she is currently pursuing her level 2 certification as a Franklin Method educator.
A mother of 2 children, Audrey has taken a keen interest in working with pre/post natal women. Having exercised through both her pregnancies whilst managing her scoliosis, she has experienced the benefits of exercise for both mother and child from pregnancy, to delivery and beyond.
Audrey’s passion to help others through movement has led her to volunteer at ABLE, a charitable organization where she provided consultancy and expertise in the set up and running of a Pilates-based Rehabilitation Centre.

Cindy Cheong

Master Instructor

Cindy believes that everybody should enjoy pain free movement regardless of age, body type and physical history. She has over ten years of experience in leading group exercises and providing personal training.

Cindy’s passion for Pilates grew from her desire to relieve pain she experienced from a lumbar herniated disc, due to excessive aerobics teaching, and her difficult second childbirth. Pilates has helped Cindy to achieve comfort and wellness. It is an important part of her life as she feels it not only improves her mind and body awareness, but it also helps her gain control over her emotions.

Since becoming a certified instructor, Cindy has worked with many clients to regain functionality and to improve their quality of life. She realizes the importance of ongoing training and actively tries to find more ways to empower her clients by providing them with the tools for self-therapy.

Karina Sudarmadji

Master Instructor

Karina had been teaching Pilates in Bandung for five years before she moved to Singapore. Teaching Pilates in Singapore was initially challenging for her due to language and cultural differences. But Karina was determined to improve her teaching skills in order to help clients.Karina believes that learning is a continuous journey. She is constantly upgrading her knowledge to understand how the body can move better. In addition to Pilates, Karina is also a GYROTONIC® certified instructor.

She has worked with clients of various fitness levels, injuries and medical conditions and feels happy when she sees them improve with every session.

With ten years of teaching experience, Karina has a patient, caring attitude and an attention to detail. Most, if not all of her clients feel at ease and confident working with her.

Karina also volunteers at ABLE teaching the physically challenged with Pilates rehabilitation techniques. She loves to help people achieve freedom through movement.

Despite her busy schedule, Karina maintains a healthy lifestyle by running regularly and has participated in races such as the Standard Chartered and Sundown Half Marathon.

Kelvin Tan

Master Instructor

Kelvin has been involved in all-things fitness since 1997, and is especially motivated when he sees how he has made an impact on the individuals he has trained.

When he started Pilates in 2004, his intention was to apply its techniques to his personal training sessions – having heard how Pilates emphasizes core work, and adopting the application of biomechanics in the Pilates exercises. Kelvin developed a great love for the practice from his very first course, spurring him to attain his full certification with STOTT PILATES®.

Kelvin brings his dynamic personality into his classes, and every class is energetic and interactive. With his experience in various fitness programs, his Pilates classes are like a melting pot of his repertoire.

Apart from teaching group exercise classes, Pilates and personal training, he is also a presenter and trainer for Les Mills Asia Pacific’s BODYCOMBAT™ & RPM™. Kelvin is also a program advisor and mentor to Fitness First Singapore’s group exercise training department.

Atsuko Hussain

An inspirational instructor who sees the potential in every individual, Atsuko goes all out in helping her clients move with greater strength, confidence and happiness through their lives. But that's not all she uses her well-trained eye and well-honed movement skillset from 7 years of teaching experience for - Atsuko also moves the community by rehabilitating individuals with disabilities such as stroke or brain trauma through active volunteer work at ABLE (Ability Beyond Limitation and Expectations). Her passion and dedication to improving people's quality of life through movement is truly remarkable.

Her accumulation of Pilates and movement expertise not just as an instructor, but also as an educator, assessor, mentor and workshop presenter has developed her well-rounded approach in curating personalised programmes for clients of different bodies and conditions to improve their strength, flexibility, stability and range of motion as needed. When she’s not teaching, you can find her practising self-care with her own Pilates practice or playing and moving with her 2 energetic and excited toddlers!

Lavinia Ang

Senior Instructor

Lavinia’s first brush with Pilates was 21 years ago when she attended a reformer class. She fell in love with the practice and became a Pilates regular, enjoying the feelings of becoming stronger and more flexible. It was the healing benefits, however, that really took her by surprise, when she discovered real and lasting improvements to her back pain and scoliosis, thanks to Pilates.
For Lavinia, that was the catalyst to turn her passion into a fulfilling career - and she’s never looked back! She set her sights set on helping others to improve their lives through Pilates - just as she had for herself - and completed the Pilates Bodyworks comprehensive qualification.
Since then, Lavinia has gained invaluable experience as an instructor and has gone onto expand and deepen her knowledge and understanding of movement by becoming certified in Pre/Post Natal Pilates, GYROTONIC® Level 1 Foundation Course, precision nutrition and more. Sarah Lin

Senior Instructor

Starting off as a client, Sarah Lin started Pilates as a complement to her triathlon training, which often left her with muscle tightness and injuries. Sarah recognised that Pilates was different from other fitness methods she had tried, and was determined to learn more. She completed a Diploma in Sports and Exercise Science and went on to become certified in the Gyrotonic Expansion System. Sarah is also fully certified in the Polestar Pilates method.

Sarah enjoys teaching clients from all walks of life from prenatal mothers to competitive Ironman Athletes. She has been teaching since 2007 but took a hiatus for 5 years to build up a food business.

Now a mother of a one-year-old girl, she is even more convinced that Pilates is essential for healing and rehabilitation of the body. She is keen to share its benefits so everyone will be equipped with skills to be free to move with strength and fluidity.

Shuri Kino

Shuri’s brush with GYROKINESIS® is not by chance, she discovered GYROKINESIS® while searching for ways to improve her movement and breathing in dance performance. She took her training course and has never looked back.Shuri began teaching GYROKINESIS® specifically to performing artists and then started a corporate programme teaching office workers in maintaining health and well-being through GYROKINESIS®. Shuri finds fulfilment in helping clients especially office workers to tackle their disorders and pain caused by the modern lifestyle.

In 2011, she took the GYROTONIC® training qualification and commenced teaching at a specialised GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS® studio in Osaka, Japan.

She has continued to develop her professional skills by attending instructor training courses in Japan and all over the world.

Shuri joins The Moving Body as an instructor and hopes to spread the method as a way to improve the lives of busy working adults.

Svetlana Rao

Svetlana was first introduced to Pilates a decade ago while trying to cope with chronic lower back pain. Discovering the healing benefits of Pilates allowed her to correct her posture, regain strength and experience a pain-free life. Inspired by her life-changing experience, she saw the opportunity to make a difference through Pilates.
Svetlana is a strong believer of the mind and body connection and in her journey to a deeper understanding of this mindful connection, Svetlana got certified as a Meditation Teacher and became a Reiki Master. Her wealth of movement education has allowed Svetlana to develop a unique expertise in her sessions to help her clients to gain optimal strength and health, increase energy and vitality. She is skilled at adapting Pilates for different bodies and conditions, to help them not only to release pain and tension but also to improve function, strength, coordination, balance, and posture. She strives to make every session challenging yet fun, bringing in a smile and positive energy through continuous engagement and interaction with her clients.

Hwee Kheng’s strong belief in the power of mindful movement stems from her 7 years of movement teaching experience and expertise, on top of 15 years of personal Pilates practice. She is highly accomplished with multiple qualifications in the movement field, including being STOTT® Pilates Instructor Certified, GYROTONIC® Instructor Certified, TRX® Trained, Myofascial Release Technique Trained and a Master Practitioner in Neuro-Linguistic Programming. Using her wealth of movement education to empower clients from all walks of life, she has trained pre/postnatal, rehabilitated musculoskeletal issues (e.g. shoulders, back, knee) and even improved mental health conditions. Valerie Yew

Valerie has been a fitness fanatic since young and has dabbled in various sports such as handball, dragon boat, squash, rock climbing, Muay Thai, kickboxing, HIIT, pole dancing and yoga.
She first discovered her love for Pilates after taking her first Pilates Mat class almost two decades ago. That passion grew to a lifelong journey of becoming a Pilates Instructor and she loves nothing more than helping others to become strong and healthy, and moving towards being pain-free in their daily lives.
Her teaching philosophy is to keep classes fun and challenging so that clients leave each class feeling accomplished and inspired. She is also a true believer in fitness as it reflects a person's hard work.
As a mother of a young toddler, she credits Pilates for a pain-free pregnancy and she is convinced that Pilates is essential for both healing and rehabilitation of the body.

Ana started her journey with Pilates when she joined The Moving Body as a Customer Service executive in 2011. Whilst here, Ana has witnessed clients that have come in with movement and body alignment issues and after some sessions, they had better posture and felt better moving.

This prompted Ana to try out Pilates and she noticed the difference in her body. She realised how Pilates can help an individual tone up, build a strong body and mind. This motivated her to embark on her journey to become a Pilates instructor.

As an instructor, she would like to help clients have a better body awareness that leads to improved body movement and reduces the risk of getting injured.

Ann Ho

As a fitness enthusiast since young, Ann Ho was exposed to the Pilates exercise in 2003. Amazed by how it connects the mind and body plus her interests in human biomechanics, she became an instructor in order to spread the true benefits of Pilates to others. Ann spent 2 years doing full time training and understudying as an apprentice, until she finally got her professional qualifications as a Pilates Method Alliance (PMA) Certified Pilates Teacher in 2008.

She derives satisfaction from seeing her clients having more ease in movement and improved postures as it equates to higher quality of life since they could stay mobile and independent for long.

The quote she always likes to share is “The ranges of motion that you use are the ranges of motion that you get to use in the future”.

Celine Khoo

Instructor

Celine has always had a keen interest in fitness and movement starting with teaching Group Exercise classes during her university days. Her first experience with Pilates was in 2004 and she has been a convert ever since! Celine started her career as a lawyer and continued to practice while teaching Pilates.

Shortly after she had her first child in 2011, it was a natural progression to retire from the
corporate world and focus on teaching. Celine has not looked back since. Celine has been teaching with The Moving Body since 2011 and she recently took a short hiatus when she moved to Hong Kong from 2018-2020 where she also taught a little Pilates there. She is now back in Singapore, and is teaching at the East Coast studio.

Having had 3 kids herself, Celine has a particular interest in working with prenatal and postnatal clients and believes in the benefits and rehabilitation that Pilates brings in this area. She has also pursued further education in this respect and hopes to do more.
Celine also loves teaching group classes and enjoys the energy and flow from the classes.

She hopes to make each class challenging yet fun and enjoyable.
The strength and flow that comes from a regular Pilates practice has continued to inspire Celine over the past 10 years and she hopes to similarly inspire and convince her clients of the benefits of Pilates and regular movement!

Out of the Pilates studio, you will also find Celine dabbling in some boxing and strength training which she believes is a great complement to Pilates!

Fiona Phua

Instructor

Fiona is a STOTT PILATES® Certified Instructor, and a lifelong student dedicated to 360-degree wellness. She is also a practitioner of the Feldenkrais method and a student of Iyengar Yoga.

She is fully certified in Matwork and Reformer, trained in Cadillac, Stability Chair and Barrels, and is also trained in Pre-natal and Post-natal Pilates.

Fiona uses movement, neuroscience and the psychology of learning in her teaching. This method activates the body’s natural intelligence to make positive, effective and powerful changes. “Having experienced chronic migraines, chronic knee pain and scoliosis at a young age, I understand that being able to wake up each morning without pain and being able to move with ease IS joy.”

“Movement is big part of our lives. Our society has led us to a place where most people live in their minds and are disconnected from their bodies.” She works with clients to strengthen the mind-body relationship, grow in awareness of their movement patterns to reduce strain and increase freedom in movement.

Gary Tham

Instructor

Gary has an active lifestyle and enjoys kayaking, dragon boating, rock climbing and running. Through personal experience of injuries sustained from these sports, Gary is adamant that one has to move correctly in order to avoid injuries.

He strongly advocates having good strength, flexibility and mobility to enjoy life’s daily activities. Gary is always keen to share his experience on how Pilates will help improve overall strength and mobility of the body. He finds great joy when he sees their body enhanced through Pilates.

The phase, “Never stop learning to improve” has stayed with Gary since he took up Pilates. He believes that through Pilates, one can understand how our body can be strengthened through effective movement.

Besides Pilates, Gary is also Sports Massage trained. He was forced to seek treatments due to joints and muscles ache from the sporting lifestyle he had. When he recovered, his beliefs in complementary therapy grew stronger. Hence, the decision to pursue a Sports Massage diploma to complement his Pilates teaching. Thus far, Gary has helped some of his clients recover from their pains and aches sustained from their active lifestyle and it has certainly encouraged him to continue helping others to achieve the same.

Gary aims to help his clients regain a pain free body to enjoy the daily activities in life.

Passionate about helping her clients feel energised and confident, Gabby will make sure that you leave class with a smile on your face!

Introduced to Pilates back in college, she loved how Pilates was a great way to heal, a moving meditation, and a great workout. Through regular sessions, she improved her physical strength, gained more flexibility and was even able to achieve her goal of running a full marathon.

She’s also a new mother to a young baby and she credits Pilates for her pain-free pregnancy and smooth labour.

Gen first started Pilates 8 years ago, in an attempt at finding a solution to scoliosis-related back pain,and it changed her life. She credits Pilates for her having a pain-free, smooth pregnancy in spite of scoliosis. Gen lives by the mantra, “Everything Happens for a Reason”, because having been a litigation lawyer, and then spending many years in the commercial insurance industry, Gen’s route to joining the movement industry was not a straightforward one. She became a Pilates instructor chiefly to share the numerous benefits of regular Pilates practice with as many people as possible.

Gen strongly believes that the mind-body connection fundamental to Pilates practice makes for safe and effective movement. Regular Pilates practice results in functional movement because it builds not only strength and flexibility, but also trains balance and proprioception. This means that Pilates can complement practically every lifestyle and fitness regime, whether a person is into high-impact sport, low-impact flow, or just wants to be able to balance better on a crowded bus!

Goh Jia Yin

Jia Yin’s passion for movement began at a young age; she trained competitively in artistic gymnastics before treading into her first (Chinese) dance class at the age of 12. A leap of faith after graduating from Singapore Management University (SMU) saw her pursuing dance at Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) in Singapore, then at State University of New York (SUNY) Purchase College under a scholarship from the National Arts Council (NAC).

Equipped with a Bachelor in Fine Arts (Dance), certifications and training in other movement modalities namely GYROTONIC®, GYROKINESIS®, and Balance Body® Pilates Mat and Reformer, Jia Yin juggles between teaching dance, Gyrotonic, Gyrokinesis, and Pilates at various studios and institutions. She is an adjunct lecturer at NAFA, and an artiste with The Human Expression (T.H.E) Dance Company’s Second Company, where she dances, choreographs, and teaches.

Jia Yin finds joy and fulfillment in helping her clients and students tap into their potential of movement as a form of therapy, injury prevention, as well as athletic and mindfulness training to enhance performance. Kana Oyama

Fitness and movement have always been a big part of Kana’s life. From ballet to Zumba to climbing to yoga, she enjoyed many different forms of exercise even from an early age. Just seven years ago, however, this passion was limited to part time. A busy corporate job in Marketing & Sales and post-partum lower back and neck pain were inhibiting her from enjoying a full and fulfilled life, but this soon changed after Kana discovered Pilates!
Thanks to regular classes on both mat and reformer, Kana found that her pain eased, she felt more relaxed, and enjoyed many other benefits to her health too. It was this life-changing experience that inspired her to change her career. Fast-forward to today and Kana is now fully certified by Polestar Pilates and loving her work as an instructor, where she helps clients to feel all the same benefits she enjoyed for herself. Karen Kim

Karen embraced Pilates due to her scoliosis. She has suffered from back, neck and shoulder pain since her teenage years and she tried a lot of different exercises such as yoga, belly dancing, long-distance running and finally Pilates. In her 7 years of practicing Pilates, her scoliosis was managed tremendously.

She fell in love with Pilates and decided to get certified as a Pilates instructor to pass on knowledge to her clients and help people find comfort and benefit from movement. She believes that movement should be fun and inspiring. Karen is able to teach her classes in both Korean and English.

In her free time, you can find her at one of Singapore’s beautiful golf courses playing golf or at a tennis court playing tennis with her husband.

Meha Jain

Meha used to be a retail buyer for home textiles - while always wanting to pursue a career in fitness, although she didn't know exactly how. She chanced upon Pilates when raising her baby boy - and was amazed at how the accumulated years of chronic back pain started fading away, then disappeared completely, thanks to a regular Pilates practice.
Meha realised that her many years of gymming and weight training in the past had been done with incorrect posture - all of which had contributed to her back aches. The precise bio-mechanics of Pilates exercises earned her the strength and flexibility she could not achieve previously. She became a Pilates convert and signed up for her Pilates Instructor course months before Covid struck, persevering through the challenges and disruptions of these uncertain times with her desire to benefit others through Pilates.
Today, Meha is fully certified by Polestar Pilates and has been teaching Pilates for the past two years. It brings her great joy to see the transformation of her clients - from having postural problems that cause chronic pain, to achieving strength and pain-free freedom of movement. She plans to make this her lifelong career.

Shirley Ting

It was more than two decades ago that Shirley discovered a love for both Pilates and yoga. Enjoying the multitude of benefits that these two mindful, low-impact practices provided her, it wasn't long before she turned a personal passion into a professional one. In addition to training as a yoga instructor, Shirley gained her Pilates instructor certification - and has never looked back.
Since the early days honing her knowledge and skills under the tutelage of master trainer Alvin Giam from Pilates Bodyworks (the man praised for starting the Pilates movement in Singapore), Shirley has gone onto teach both at home and overseas in a variety of venues including private health clubs, sports centers, dance studios, NAFA and more.

Sophie Ki

Sophie’s love for Pilates started from a misfortune. She used to dance ballet recreationally until that hobby was cut short when an injury prevented her from continuing to dance. She then turned to Pilates as an alternative form of fitness.

Fast forward seven years, Sophie is now a certified Pilates instructor who is also interested in various movement modalities that complement her Pilates practice and teaching. Her goal as an instructor is to help clients feel confident about their bodies, and have the freedom to move and live. She feels energised and deeply satisfied when she can share her methods with her clients and make a positive impact in their lives.

She holds a BSc in Life Sciences and it became a building block in her interest in human physiology. She is constantly learning – taking up additional courses like nutrition and specific certification courses like Franklin Method. She even took a human cadaver dissection course to learn more about human anatomy and internal systems!

Aparna started her career as a physiotherapist in 2002 with the aim of improving the quality of life of adults and children with neurological issues, such as stroke and cerebral palsy. She soon realised that caregivers need equal amounts of attention; and thus, her interest in issues of the spine, sacroiliac joints and the knees and shoulders. Her masters in health sciences (with a specialisation in paediatrics) a couple of years later gave her a more holistic view of the neuromuscular and musculoskeletal system of adults and children.

Aparna believes in adopting a head-to-toe approach. She sees the body as a chain of interconnected muscles and joints; where a dysfunction at one end is bound to affect the other end. For her, efficiency in movement is the key to a healthy and fit life. Together with her concept of a “preventive physiotherapy,” Aparna aims to return her patients to a comfortable life as soon as possible.

Pilates is a modality she believed would help her achieve her aims in rehabilitation as well as in “preventive physiotherapy.” She did her comprehensive Pilates training with Polestar Pilates; and then shifted to Singapore from Kuala Lumpur to work as a senior Physiotherapist with The Moving Body. Subsequent to that, she has become a Master Instructor/Faculty Educator for Balanced Body Pilates. Shimpi Bhanot

Physiotherapist

Shimpi is a highly experienced physiotherapist with over 15 years of experience in India, UK and Singapore. Her experience includes treating patients of all age groups in a variety of settings ranging from hospitals and clinics to home settings.

Shimpi has a natural inclination of working with the elderly and children. She has been working with children and elderly with various physical disabilities in a clinical setting in Singapore for the past 10 years. Prior, she was working with National Health Services in London. Over the course of her career she has worked extensively with adults and children having neurological and orthopedic conditions. Her area of interest lies in corrective gait, sports injuries, pediatric physiotherapy and musculoskeletal rehabilitation. She believes in combining evidence-based practice with a holistic approach in managing her clients.

She holds a Bachelor's degree in Physiotherapy from Delhi University and a Masters degree in Neurorehabilitation from Brunel University, London. She is registered with Allied Health Professions Council, Singapore.

Shimpi brings to The Moving Body a lot of positive energy with a fun-filled approach to therapy. When not working, she spends her time doing yoga, painting and engaging in sports.
