"The ultimate aim is to be at home in one's body, to be at one with the nature of oneself, and to experience exercise as a creative and delightful experience."
- Juliu Horvath, creator of the GYROTONIC® method.
Like many great inventions, the GYROTONIC® method started as the answer to an urgent need. Having ruptured his Achilles tendon and damaged a spinal disc, founder and ex-ballet dancer Juliu Horvath created his own movement system, known as the GYROTONIC® in the 1980s. This unique movement method incorporates movement principles similar to yoga, dance, gymnastics, swimming and tai-chi. The GYROTONIC® system consists of circular and fluid movements that stretch and strengthen muscles, as well as mobilize joints of the body. One can enjoy increased strength, tone and range of motion for daily activities and sports.

GYROTONIC® exercises are typically done on a pulley tower designed to adapt to the needs of every body type. Unlike conventional exercise equipment, GYROTONIC® equipment applies constant resistance; this eliminates the jarring at the start and end of a movement, where most injuries occur. At The Moving Body Group, we offer private GYROTONIC® training for fitness and rehabilitation. We are the first studio in Singapore to offer group classes for experienced users of the GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEM®. We also offer private training on the full suite of GYROTONIC® specialized equipment which consist of the GYROTONER®, Archway, Jumping-Stretching Board and Leg Extension Unit.

The Archway
An ordinary painter's ladder inspired GYROTONIC® creator, Juliu Horvath to create the GYROTONIC® Archway. The unique qualities of the Archway allows the use of gravity to stretch and strengthen the body in ways that cannot be achieved on conventional exercise equipment.

The Leg Extension Unit
On conventional equipment designed to strengthen the legs, a simple back and forth motion on a pivot can cause injury in various muscles and ligaments, such as the knee. Juliu Horvath designed the Leg Extension Unit so that, an additional mechanism allows the leg to lengthen as it strengthens, thus providing a more gentle, fluid environment in which the leg can move. Over 30 unique exercises can also be performed on this machine using the hand/foot straps and various accessories.

The Jumping-Stretching Board
Over 60 unique exercises can be performed on the Jumping-Stretching Board. It is a versatile machine that allows one to perform exercises for fitness and rehabilitation. One of the main feature of the Jumping-Stretching Board includes a main track that can lay flat, parallel to the ground, or raised on an incline. Various accessories can slide along this track to enable movements that mimic various activities of everyday life.
Juliu Horvath developed the GYROTONER® based on the idea that the spine is a key element in all movement. The GYROTONER® handles can be adjusted in a variety of positions to teach users how to use the spine better, in various activities in sitting and standing. Health professionals have also achieved great results in using the GYROTONER® for rehabilitation of the shoulder and hip.
The GYROTONIC® method originates from exercises that were originally done on the mat called the GYROKINESIS® method. It is a workout that takes the body through seven basic movements that can improve fluidity, rhythm and coordination in movement. Expect an exercise repertoire that is gentle on the joints and stimulates the muscles and internal organs, positions are not held for long periods of time. Breath is taught with the intention of cleansing and rejuvenating the entire body. A GYROKINESIS® class, is typically done on low stools and a mat to help strengthen and release joints and muscles throughout the body. GYROKINESIS® classes can benefit anyone:
  • Who spends hours sitting at work
  • Looking to improve sports performance
  • Looking to de-stress, improve strength and overall energy levels
