Yizhen Lim -
Instructor

A freelance dancer/dance teacher trained in jazz, hip hop, salsa and contemporary dance, Yizhen loves exploring different dance genres and ways of movement. An NUS Dance Ensemble alumna, she also graduated from L.A. Dance Connection’s Scholarship Programme (SG), and Broadway Dance Center’s International Student Visa Program (NY), receiving the Outstanding Student Award (September 2011) and mentoring with Sheila Barker, Joy Karley, Jamie J. & Co. and Jared Grimes. She has performed extensively locally and overseas, and taught at various dance studios, schools and fitness centers.

Yizhen discovered Pilates in 2010 while training in New York, after spraining her knee and dealing with existing back injuries. Intensive Pilates practice positively transformed her alignment, flexibility and core strength, allowing her to cope with the athleticism of dancing. That inspired her to study Pilates and help others by sharing her experiences. She is a certified Balanced Body Pilates instructor (Mat, Reformer and Apparatus), and trained in the Balanced Body curriculum to teach CoreAlign®. She is committed to helping individuals from all walks of life strengthen their bodies in a pain free and holistic manner, and constantly upgrading her skills via continuing education to effectively communicate and share the benefits of Pilates with everyone!

Working from home meant we could vary snack and coffee breaks, change our desks or view, goof off, drink on the job, even spend the day in pajamas

June first brush with teaching came when her lecturer encouraged her to teach an aerobics class as part of her assignment. She has never looked back since and has been in the fitness industry since 2013. She started her career in Certis Cisco as a fitness trainer for the army recruits. June started attending spinning classes with her friend and was inspired by the energy of the instructors so she signed up for the Les Mills RPM Training. June’s life revolves around health and fitness and manages a healthy balanced lifestyle. She believes in healthy eating, with a good balance of exercise and sufficient sleep. In her free time, June still visits the gym and attends classes to get inspiration for her classes. June gets her motivation from her clients who enjoy the workout. June believes that workouts should always be fun, and of course, safe. Exercising should never be seen as a 'punishment', because being able to move is a gift.
Shuri's brush with GYROKINESIS® is not by chance, she discovered GYROKINESIS® while searching for ways to improve her movement and breathing in dance performance. She took her training course and has never looked back.Shuri began teaching GYROKINESIS® specifically to performing artists and then started a corporate programme teaching office workers in maintaining health and well-being through GYROKINESIS®. Shuri finds fulfilment in helping clients especially office workers to tackle their disorders and pain caused by the modern lifestyle. In 2011, she took the GYROTONIC® training qualification and commenced teaching at a specialised GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS® studio in Osaka, Japan. She has continued to develop her professional skills by attending instructor training courses in Japan and all over the world. Shuri joins The Moving Body as an instructor and hopes to spread the method as a way to improve the lives of busy working adults.
Hwee Kheng has been actively involved in movement most of her life. She started Pilates over 10 years ago to help with her lower back pain. Her regular practice in Pilates, as well as the GYROTONIC® method, together with all her other training, not only helped strengthen her core and back, it also helped her move mindfully which is important to minimize injuries and effectively recover from one. She is grateful that she can continue to do many things she enjoyed and to try new experiences and challenges (including aerial arts) that she probably would have difficulties with when she was younger! This philosophy and approach carries over to her work as an instructor – she enjoys working with and coaching clients to move more mindfully and effectively, so that in turn they can be better in dealing with their life challenges. She had experiences working with clients with shoulders, back, and knee issues to help them strengthen and improve from pain.
