Yue Tong began dancing and performing at an early age. She started training at Singapore Ballet Academy and subsequently went on to further her studies in contemporary dance. She believes that Pilates is suitable for everyone – from simple stretching and strengthening of the core to others that require a more athletic challenge and approach. Practicing Pilates has allowed her a deeper understanding and awareness of the body. As an athlete herself, Yue Tong understands the needs of the physical body and looks forward to help others move, train and perform more efficiently. Yue Tong turns to GYROKINESIS® when she needs to mobilise and reduce tension to her spine. It has helped to improve her posture, she feels that GYROKINESIS® not only relates to dancers but to non-dancers as well. She is certified in GYROKINESIS® Level 1 and is also trained in Pilates. Yue Tong hopes to share her experience with these movement methods to benefit others.
Aparna started her career as a physiotherapist in 2002 with the aim of improving the quality of life of adults and children with neurological issues, such as stroke and cerebral palsy. She soon realised that caregivers need equal amounts of attention; and thus, her interest in issues of the spine, sacroiliac joints and the knees and shoulders. Her masters in health sciences (with a specialisation in paediatrics) a couple of years later gave her a more holistic view of the neuromuscular and musculoskeletal system of adults and children. Aparna believes in adopting a head-to-toe approach. She sees the body as a chain of interconnected muscles and joints; where a dysfunction at one end is bound to affect the other end. For her, efficiency in movement is the key to a healthy and fit life. Together with her concept of a “preventive physiotherapy,” Aparna aims to return her patients to a comfortable life as soon as possible. Pilates is a modality she believed would help her achieve her aims in rehabilitation as well as in “preventive physiotherapy.” She did her comprehensive Pilates training with Polestar Pilates; and then shifted to Singapore from Kuala Lumpur to work as a senior Physiotherapist with The Moving Body. Subsequent to that, she has become a Master Instructor/Faculty Educator for Balanced Body Pilates. Under The Movement Academy, she conducts Pilates training courses for those who are interested in becoming Pilates Instructors.
It is easy to attribute Wany’s expertise to over 10 years of industry experience; but in reality, it is due to her personal belief that the key to a good life is moving well. Her approach to exercise is fuelled by this principle of fundamental movement and drives her to create personalized, targeted plans to unlock movement potential in her clients. She pulls from her extensive and constantly growing knowledge base – she is a graduate of sports and exercises science, certified in varied Pilates techniques (Balanced Body, STOTT, Gyrotonic), TRX, endurance and Bootcamp training, and precision nutrition among others. The results speak for themselves, as her clients experience holistic improvement in their strength, flexibility, and pain levels. She also enjoys conducting group classes both high intensity or low impact. Wany’s classes are as challenging as they are fun. Recognised by Nike for her skills and energetic vibe, she currently holds a Master Trainer role in SoutheastAsia. She conducts training in the region and is a consultant for the SEA team for program modifications. Wany is always looking out for new perspectives and techniques to include in her teaching arsenal. In her free time, Wany dabbles in various sports, yoga, and meditation. Her life’s work is centred around ageing gracefully to live independently without pain, for herself and the community.
